So some time ago, I did a meme. The rules: Pick your twenty favourite pairings, and write a short description of each. Then post the descriptions and see if your flist can guess the characters.

So I did. But of my twenty pairings, only nine were solved. And I did say I'd post the solutions. So here they are (after six months).

2. The brat and the river, who freed each other. Who knows where their waters flow now? Sen/Chihiro and Haku from Spirited Away, identified by kohi_no_tora.
3. He's an ex-drunk who uses the law to keep his demons down where they belong and practices his morality in the dark, where it counts. She's the only child of the richest family in town who practices charity and good works because she truly believes in them. They love each other to pieces and neither can quite believe it, even after seeing the other go to the wall for them. Sir Samuel and Lady Sybil Vimes from the City Watch sub-series of Sir Terry Pratchett's Discworld, identified by dorianegray.
4. One's a childhood-abuse survivor who uses her mage- and military strength to keep the peace and likes to rescue and adopt kids in similar situations to her own past. The other has friendship for everyone and believes in 'peace through beating the crap out of her opponent/s'. Together, they fight rogue mages! Fate Testarossa Harlaown and Takamachi Nanoha from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha and its sequels, identified by kohi_no_tora.
7. She's an ex-pickpocket who let a magician pick her up off the street because she was getting too old to survive safely there; he's a nobleman who likes being a police investigator much better than being a proper gentleman. Somehow they manage to fight magical crime in Victorian London AND infuriate everybody they know at the same time. Kim and Mairelon from Mairelon the Magician and Magician's Ward, identified by dorianegray.
9. Reincarnation's a bitch; they used to be princes and princesses of the solar system and now they're middle-class Japanese school students. The future destiny's nice but fighting all these monsters sucks. And even meeting your future daughter doesn't make up for the fact that you're only fourteen NOW and if your boyfriend lays a hand on you your dad will FREAK. Still, at least you can kiss! Tsukino Usagi/Sailor Moon and Chiba Mamoru/Tuxedo Kamen from Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon, identified by kohi_no_tora.
12. She's a cyborg vigilante with a stripperiffic outfit, and she's the police inspector alternately working with and infuriated by her. Honey and Natsuko "Na-chan" Aki from Cutey Honey Flash!, identified by gryffinseye.
13. She's an ex-divine avatar who likes to knit and play with cats, and he's a dimension-hopping sorcerer with a massive ego and no common sense (but also likes cats). Together they police the worlds and raise technomages. Millie and Christopher Chant from Diana Wynne Jones' The Chronicles of Chrestomanci, identified by dorianegray.
15. It is not romantic to have a stalker with manic tendencies and an unusual diet, but if you're crazy enough to think it is, and have so little self-esteem that you actively encourage his obsession, then you probably deserve each other. Edward Cullen and Bella Swan from Twilight, identified by dorianegray.
19. In 1950s Korea, an American army doctor and an American army nurse amuse the rest of their unit by constantly scoring off each other. Canon gave them only one night together but even with the dramatic story requirements you couldn't keep them apart. Hawkeye Pierce and Hotlips Hoolihan from M*A*S*H, identified by kohi_no_tora.

1. Even they didn't think it would work out at first - he's the raised-in-secret prince of a once-great land, working to bring it back to its former glory, and she was brought up by trees. Leif and Jasmine, from the 'Deltora Quest' series by Emily Rodda. Incidentally, we're not joking about Jasmine being adopted and brought up by that sentient forest.
5. Maybe it's a good thing that he's the ghost of a boy who died in a cataclysm over a thousand years ago, when you consider that she's setting out on a religious pilgrimage to prevent that cataclysm's reoccurance, which is supposed to end with her ritual suicide. Tidus and yuna of 'Final Fantasy XII'.
6. The sea-captain and the decendant of the first, legendary Chinese Emperor. Species bars not the love that is of the mind and soul rather than the body. Captain William Lawrence and Temeraire of the 'Temeraire Chronicles' by Naomi Novak.
8. According to the tengu clan higher-ups, that low-rank crippled female and the human boy with congenital heart problems she picked up last summer are never gonna make it work, and she ought to give him up already. Sumire and Chiharu, two characters in the sidestories of 'Black Bird' by Sakurakoji Kanoko.
10. He's got all the fame for all the worst reasons, and she stands in flagrant display of the truth of their ideals which their enemies oppose. They've always stood side by side through thick and thin. Canon put them with others but I say they belong together. Harry Potter and Hermione Granger from the 'Harry Potter' series by J.K. Rowling. Meh, it's not a secret that canon and I don't always see eye to eye.
11. By day, they're best friends who each unknowingly hold the other's heart; by night, he's a criminal and her father is sworn to catch him. This can't end well. Kuroba Kaito and Nakamori Aoko from 'Magic Kaito' by Aoyama Gosho.
14. She's the neglected daughter of a scholar, and dying of tuberculosis. He's the rejected heir to an empire, with magical powers, a destiny he never wanted and a price on his head. Falling in love is exactly what they DIDN'T want to do. Okuda Takiko and Uruki/Rimudo from 'Fushigi yuugi: Genbu Kaiden'.
16. In a world of superheroes, his power of instant teleportation makes him a brilliant art thief, while her power of uncontrolled extreme luck (good AND bad) makes her a destiny breaker and hazardous to hang around for any great length of time. Good thing he likes to live dangerously. Devlin Dash/Debonair and Bella Bulluci, from the 'Bigtime' novels by Jennifer Estep.
17. With no mother and two older overprotective brothers and an even more overprotective father, it's no wonder that she's so tomboyish strangers think she's a guy. He's determined to make it as an actor, what better way than to prove it by living as a girl for two years? Drama is supposed to stay on the stage! Miura Ito and Amano Makoto, from 'W Juliet' by Emura.
18. He's good at everything, has the ego to match, and has been sent to summer camp to learn how to get along with other kids. He's been sent to summer camp to get his head out of books and make some friends. Instant best friends forever and a mutual determination to get OUT of there resulting in antics that would make Houdini scream was probably not what their parents had in mind. Rudy Miller and Mike Webster, from 'I Want To Go Home!' by Gordon Korman.
20. She's a science nerd, he's a basketball jock. Individually and together they rock show tunes.Gabriella and Troy, from 'High School Musical'. I can't believe nobody got this one!

I actually enjoyed doing this meme, and I kind of wish it had been more popular. Oh well.
